he choice between thermal and vellum labels depends on the printing technology used and the durability required. Direct thermal labels work with direct thermal printers: the print head applies heat directly to the label, creating the image with no need for a ribbon. They are the most economical and immediate solution, ideal for short-life-cycle labels such as those used for shipping, pricing and weighing.

How to choose the right format and adhesive

Dimensions: the width and height of the label determine the available printing space. Check your printer’s specifications for compatible formats.
Quantity per roll: the number of labels per roll, or the outer diameter of the roll, affects how often you need to replace it. For high-volume environments, choose high-yield rolls or linerless technology.
Core hole: the size of the inner core must be compatible with the printer’s spindle. The most common sizes are 25 mm, 40 mm and 76 mm.
Adhesive type: permanent adhesive is suited to labels that need to stay applied permanently; removable adhesive allows removal without leaving residue. The choice between acrylic and hot-melt depends on the application surface and environmental conditions.
Linerless labels: less waste, more efficiency
Linerless labels represent the most innovative evolution in labeling. Unlike traditional labels, they have no silicone-coated backing (liner), which is normally discarded after application. This brings two immediate benefits: a significant reduction in waste produced and more labels per roll — up to 40% more than traditional rolls of the same diameter.
